End of Semester stuff

AKA: the video showed on the last class day. Some scenes need lighting, some need finished animation, and several of them go by too fast and therefore need to be slowed down. But it's looking good!

...............

Also, here is the trailer that was put together for this year's Viz-A-GoGo (the department spring showcase of student work):

Lighting & more

Video shown for review on April 18th, showing more layout and animation, plus some semblance of lighting. There's something weird going on with the render (y'know, when the models essentially turn inside out) so I will try to figure out what's causing this.

Some Layout

(It's been a while since the last post here, amirite? Also: calendar has been updated in order to show a schedule that I could possibly achieve. Check it out on the sidebar there.)

Some layout for class discussion. Cameras are....there....though some are more confusing than others. Let's fix this.

updating animatic

...slowly. There are still some tricky areas in the timing where I'm not quite certain how things are going to happen, but I like the feel of the first few shots, where the camera has been changed so that it will cut to the important action in a better, tighter framing than previous versions of this scene.

This version is fairly close on timing at the end, though it still feels too fast in some places for me. Though I am aiming for 30 seconds (not including titles) for the final, I will not hold myself to that limit if I think the timing of some scenes could benefit from some more breather room. However, I do expect the full running time (with titles & credits) to fall under 45 seconds easily.

cartoon reference

Some (other people's) work, as an example of the style I'd like to attempt. Keep in mind these are semi-professional, or group projects by a team of animators at the very least, and are thus FAR more polished than what I will be able to finish for this class...but they do represent the flattish, stylised appearance I would love to achieve.

For the 2d portion, I really like this sketchy-yet-smooth style of animation used here:

I'm a monster from Headless Productions on Vimeo.

And for the 3d, I love how these artists incorporate the 3d objects into a flat world, through the very stylised, drawn/artsy textures. It's a very different look from the usual photo or quasi-realistic approach that I've seen. (Both videos by teams from Supinfocom)

REBOOT: The Revamping

I will be using this semester's VIZA 623 class to finish this sucker through the magic of REDOING THINGS (the side effect of making far too few backups and consequently losing all one's most recent animation files in a hard drive crash).

The story and cameras especially need to be reworked for time and clarity, but the assets (models) and basic story elements of exploring a plumber's inner fantasy life will remain the same. On the plus side, I do have strong recollections of which parts of the story and action gave me headaches, and shall endeavour to improve these issues.

From this post onward, all content will be done as part of this class work. Onward to victory (I hope)!

Scenes 1 & 2

First two scenes: very brief, but finally getting there.
